Our Mission Statement

Greene Towne Montessori School, located in Center City, Philadelphia, is dedicated to providing a stimulating learning environment for children ages 18 months to 6 years, consistent with the values and principles developed by Dr. Maria Montessori. Greene Towne’s curriculum is designed to develop each child’s full human potential – emotionally, physically, intellectually, and socially – and to foster a life-long love of learning. Greene Towne’s programs aim to meet the diverse needs of the children and families we serve.

Every aspect of Greene Towne stimulates creativity and learning. Educational materials are designed specifically for a young child’s mind and body, and the facility is colorful, bright and inviting. Boys and girls feel inspired, whether they are writing a short story with the moveable alphabet, taking pictures of their school for a photography exhibit, or watering seedlings in our container garden on the roof deck.

At Greene Towne Montessori School, your child builds the skills and self-assurance that lead to a lifetime of learning. In a multi-age learning environment that nurtures the unique personality and individual abilities of each child, Greene Towne’s trained Montessori teachers invite children to explore their own talents and to feel a real sense of accomplishment with each new skill learned. Our teachers care for and nurture every girl and boy, yet respect each child’s need for independence. Children become self-confident – inspired to learn new skills and improve on past achievements – preparing themselves for tomorrow.

Since 1966, Greene Towne Montessori School has provided a quality Montessori education to Philadelphia children and families. Greene Towne’s certified Montessori teachers help your child:

  • Have physical and mental independence, self-confidence, and self-control
  • Manage the requirements of daily life
  • Develop sense perception so that she or he perceives the world accurately
  • Acquire language and math skills at his or her most receptive moments
  • Demonstrate respect and sensitivity toward other children

Each Greene Towne classroom, with a mix of ages, encourages children of different abilities and backgrounds to interact and learn from each other in a non-competitive environment. Each child is an individual moving at his or her own pace, building layer upon layer. A three-year-old can observe and learn penmanship or math from the older and more advanced children. Kindergarten boys and girls hone their own abilities and develop confidence by teaching younger children new skills. When a child completes the Montessori Primary program with the Kindergarten year, he or she emerges as a confident lifelong learner, eager and well-prepared to face new challenges.
